The Great Camel Experiment Statue

From 1856 to 1866, Indianola Texas was landing Port to the U.S. Army's camel experiment, a short-lived project that used camels to ferry supplies across the deserts of the Southwest. Deemed a success by most standards, the government nevertheless canceled the program, a victim of volatile Civil War-era politics.
